Workshop on X-ray absorption spectroscopy

and advanced XAS techniques

When: October 6 -10, 2008

Where: Paul Scherrer Institut (West), Auditorium

Scope

The main goal of the 3rd annual XAS workshop is to discuss basic aspects of X-ray absorption spectroscopy in combination with advanced XAS techniques, including new methods (e.g., XES, standing waves), advanced experimental strategies as well as innovative data analysis concepts.
The workshop will provide a stimulating forum to present new ideas, discuss future perspectives, and establish new collaborations. The meeting brings together experienced synchrotron users with potential future users of different scientific back- grounds (e.g., material science, biogeochemistry, catalysis, solid state chemistry or biology).
The workshop will combine invited talks with poster contributions. A tour through the SLS will be organized, allowing participants to take a close look at the experimental facilities available at the Swiss Light Source and to discuss potential experiments with the beamline scientists.

In addition to the meeting, two extensive tutorials on XAS data analysis will be given by Bruce Ravel (IFEFFIT – Athena and Artemis) and Thorsten Ressler (WinXAS).

The main workshop will take place on Tuesday, October 7th and Wednesday, October 8th at the Swiss Light Source (PSI, Villigen, Switzerland). The WinXAS course will be held on Monday, October 6th, while the IFEFFIT course will take place Thursday and Friday, October 9th and 10th.

Venue

The  Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) is a national research institute containing large research facilities and conducting basic research.

The most recently built facility is the Swiss Light Source (SLS), a third generation synchrotron providing intense x-ray beams for experimental stations utilizing both soft and hard x-rays.
